2016 GENERAL ELECTION OF THE AFRICAN GEOPHYSICAL SOCIETY

Interested members of AGS are hereby invited to contest in the forthcoming General Election of the African Geophysical Society. The election shall hold during the AGM of the Society scheduled to take place during the 2016 Annual AGS conference scheduled to hold between 7th and11th November 2016 at the Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny FHB, Cocody Campus, de Bingerville, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Section 11 of the Society’s constitution specified that the administration of the Society shall be entrusted to the Council comprising of an Executive Committee and the Section Chairs. So the following posts shall be filled at the forthcoming election
The Executive Committee consists of the following:
a) A President
b) A Vice-President (President-Elect or Past –President)
c) A Secretary General
d) An Assistant Secretary General (Secretary General –Elect or Past Secretary General)
e) Publicity/Organising Secretary
f) An Assistant Publicity/Organising Secretary
g) A Treasurer
h) An Assistant Treasurer (Treasurer-Elect or Past-)
i) Editor

Section chairs shall be elected also for the following sections:
a) Solid Earth Science
b) Atmospheric Science
c) Ocean Science
d) Astronomy and Planetary Science
e) Solar and Terrestrial Science
f) Hydrological Science
g) Earth and Space Science Informatics
Qualification: Every individual member as specified by section 5 of the Society’s constitution is eligible to be voted and be voted for any of the above positions. ‘Individual members are persons who are professionally engaged in or associated with studies of Earth and Space sciences, subscribe to the objectives of the Society and pay the appropriate membership fee.’ An electoral committee has been constituted to handle the election. Nomination and voting shall take place during the Annual General Assembly of the Society during the 2016 Conference.
